Cole Bowie

Mahira: Hi, nice to meet you. Could you introduce yourself to the public here?

Cole: Of course. My name is Cole Bowie and I’m running to be a CCAS Senator this next upcoming academic year. Hopefully you’re CCAS Senator.

Mahira: That is just amazing. Now I’m just curious, what is your favorite animal and why?

Cole: My favorite animal is the red panda. I think they’re so cute, and I remember when I first came to DC on a senior field trip. We went to the zoo and I saw the red panda. And unfortunately, they don’t have them anymore. So I’m a little sad, but I would say red panda. They’re adorable.

Mahira: That is amazing. I think that is an awesome animal to choose. Now, actually, if I was an alien in particular and I came from space down to DC, where is the 1st place that you’re going to show me? Is that the zoo? Is that somewhere else?

Cole: I think it’s somewhere else. I think it’s the GW Deli. Now, hear me out. I love the GW Deli. I haven’t gone as much as I wanted to because I know the lines are really long sometimes. And I’m always in a rush to class. But when I have gone, the bacon, egg, and cheese is really good. So I mean, that’s probably where I would take an alien, just show off a little bit of campus. But I would say that’s kind of like an undercover gem, you know?

Mahira: That is amazing. Now, in under 50 seconds, I’m going to time in one second. Could you tell me one of your biggest policies? In three, two, one, go.

Cole: Facilities. So my biggest thing is accessibility on campus. I’m very mindful and aware of a lot of accessibility needs. I’ve actually advocated for ADA-compliant doors in Fulbright and gone on accessibility walks to identify campus beautification and accessibility issues. I would also say heating and cooling in that realm as well, as well as kind of advertising what facilities is, because a lot of people think, it’s just the Fix-It system, but it’s so much more. It’s every part of the residential life. So I would say facilities is my biggest platform issue. I would say my second would probably be like student life, addressing a lot of the DEI issues on campus. and the administration walking those back.

Mahira: That is amazing, and I really appreciate how you’re taking the time to understand these different communities that you can help, especially when it comes to people with disabilities, improving the infrastructure here on campus to serve that community. Of course. I definitely think that’s amazing. And I’m just curious, what is a childhood fear that you had growing up, and how exactly did you overcome that fear?

Cole: I was terrified of clowns, which is really ironic because I dressed up as Art the Clown my freshman year for Halloween. I would say I’m kind of over it. I’ve like exposed myself to a lot more, a lot of horror movies since coming to college. Love horror movies. But I think that fear is still a little bit there. Pennywise does scare me a little bit. But yeah, definitely clowns.

Mahira: All right. You know what? I love that. And I love how it kind of came full circle with your costume. Thank you so much for being with the GW Local here today. We really appreciate you coming here.

Cole: Of course. Thank you so much. Everyone should really watch the GW Local.

Mahira: Thank you!
